Weekend fun
This weekend my sweet husband and I went away with some friends we met on-line. We had a really great time. Strangely we went to the Cabbage Patch hospital, "Baby Land General," where we watched a rather disturbing "delivery" by "mother cabbage."
Nurses were called in when mother cabbage was dilated to 6 leaves. At ten leaves of dilation an ultra sound was done showing pink for a girl. The new adoptive mommy, who was around 5 was ecstatic as she watched her new $200 child being born into the world. Mother cabbage was given "Imagicillin" for the pain and was spared a "Cabbage-section" The child was "picked" from her mother and promptly smacked on her signed little bottom then given the name "Velvet Anne," by the new mommy. After-wards the child was whisked away to the nurse's station where she was bathed, dressed (in clothes purchased by grandma), and swaddled in a 35 dollar blanket then placed lovingly in her mommy's awaiting arms over the cash register in the "adoption room."
From a child's perspective it was adorable. From an adult's perspective however, it was rather disturbing. I can see how it would help a child understand birth in a safe and semi-truthful fashion. However, I would think there would be a cheaper way to depict this blessed event, say a book? All in all the blessed birth cost grandma around $350.00 when you consider the doll, the birth, the clothes, and the blanket.
In the end it was a very positive experience, even for the guys, though they were reluctant to admit more than, "as long as you're happy, love." I'll admit I was certainly feeling a combination of my biological clock and the longing to be 6 again as I held the preemies and longed to take one home. It was fun to see the "birth," at least since someone else was paying, and to see the sheer joy and amazement on the new mommy's face. That baby (doll is a four letter word) will probably be loved with as much love as her little mommy heart can give.
